Job Summary

Conduct testing, training, and implementation of Positive Train Control (PTC). Validate the PTC system, perform lab and field acceptance testing, and develop and implement training scenarios for locomotive simulators and class curriculum. Train Supervisors, Engineers, and Conductors on PTC operation and on-board PTC equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Execute PTC system validation and acceptance testing in both lab and field environments.
  • Assist in mitigating onboard anomalies to enhance system reliability and user efficiency.
  • Provide comprehensive PTC field operations support to all operating departments and regional stakeholders.
  • Investigate and identify PTC-related human-machine operational errors and subsystem failures for regulatory reporting purposes.
  • Support divisional Road Foreman in administering PTC operational policies and procedures for locomotive engineers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Train Service Engineer Certification. 
  • Plus 3 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Train Service Engineer Certification. 
  • Plus 5 years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Superior communication skills encompassing writing, speaking, and presentation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in CFR 236 Subpart I (PTC) regulations, CFR Part 240 regulations, Amtrak’s Airbrake and Train Handling Instruction, Operating Rules, and Safety Rules
  • Skilled in developing and delivering comprehensive training and testing programs with proven results
  • Demonstrate appropriate leadership traits through practical work experience, such as independence, initiative, collaboration, and mentoring

Environmental Conditions/Physical Demands

The salary/hourly range is $115,000.00 – $135,000.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
