Job Description

About the role The Trust & Safety Lead – SwishPlay is responsible for building, leading, and operating SwishPlay’s trust, safety, and content governance framework. Reporting to the Head of SwishPlay and working closely with Legal, Security, AI/ML, and Product teams, this role ensures SwishPlay remains a safe, lawful, and trustworthy platform for creators and viewers while respecting freedom of expression. This role owns content moderation strategy, abuse prevention, policy enforcement, and platform integrity for a global video platform. Key Responsibilities Trust & Safety Strategy & Governance Define and own SwishPlay’s trust & safety strategy and operating model Develop content policies, community guidelines, and enforcement standards Ensure policies are clear, fair, and consistently applied Content Moderation & Abuse Prevention Oversee moderation workflows for user-generated content Manage handling of abuse, harassment, extremism, copyright, and harmful content Balance automated moderation with human review Platform Integrity & Risk Management Identify and mitigate platform abuse risks (spam, coordinated manipulation, fraud) Work with Product and AI teams to prevent algorithmic amplification of harmful content Support proactive risk assessment for new features Legal, Regulatory & Compliance Alignment Ensure compliance with global content regulations and platform obligations Coordinate takedowns, law enforcement requests, and legal escalations Maintain documentation and audit trails for moderation decisions Transparency, Appeals & User Trust Design appeals, dispute resolution, and transparency processes Improve user understanding of enforcement actions Support public transparency reporting and accountability Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Coordination Build and lead Trust & Safety operations and policy teams Work closely with Engineering, UX, AI/ML, Security, and Legal teams Provide regular risk and performance reporting to leadership Expectations Apply balanced, ethical judgment in complex content decisions Operate independently with integrity and professionalism Communicate clearly during sensitive or high-impact situations Operate effectively in a fully remote, global environment

Requirements

Experience Proven experience in trust & safety, content moderation, or platform governance roles Experience working with user-generated content platforms Experience balancing free expression, safety, and regulatory compliance Experience working in remote or distributed teams preferred Skills Strong policy development and risk assessment skills Experience with moderation workflows and enforcement processes Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities Clear written and verbal communication skills Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Law, Policy, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Trust & Safety, policy, or platform governance certifications preferred but not required
